Unusual Development of Basement Membrane about Small Blood Vessels

چکیده
Basement m e m b r a n e is usually found where connective tissue comes into contac t wi th epithelial s tructures (1). I t occurs on the outer surface of the endothe l ium of small blood vessels, t hough it is flimsy and deficient about sinusoidal vessels of the spleen, liver, bone marrow, and frog hear t (2-6). Consisting of a feltwork of fine filaments embedded in a homogeneous ma t r ix (4, 5), it comprises three layers: viz., the l amina ra ra interna, l amina densa, and l amina ra ra externa (5, 7-9). U n d e r normal or physiological conditions, endothel ia l basement membranes are known to vary in thickness with age (9-13), species (9, 11, 13-17), and the site and na tu re of the vessel (2, 3, 9-20). Pathological th ickening of the glomerular basement membranes occurs in bo th spontaneous and experimental ly induced lesions (9, 1 l, 21-23). However , in the present repor t an exceedingly thick basement membrane , wi thout any recognizable pathological cause, was found in small vessels of the frog. In addit ion, the uhras t ruc tu ra l organizat ion of the basement m e m b r a n e was qui te unusua l in tha t it was related not only to endothe l ium bu t also to pericytes and advent i t ia l cells.

Unusual presentation of primary mandibular gingival squamous cell carcinoma in young male: A case report
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is usually considered a disease of older people. Recently, there is a change in the occurrence of such lesions in young patients and lacking the established risk factors. CASE REPORT: A 21-year-old male reported with an innocuous gingival growth over lower incisors since a month. Within 15 days he noticed another gingival growth in same region l...

Sublethal toxicity effects of diazinon on the structure of some organs of great sturgeon ( Huso huso ) were investigated. Diazinon was applied at a sublethal concentration of 1.5 mg L -1 at 22±1 ºC for nine weeks as a constant bath. Tissues of liver, kidney and gills were sampled and examined histopathologically after 1, 14, 28, 42 and 63 days post exposure to the...
متن کاملEvaluation of Nonperfused Retinal Vessels in Ischemic Retinopathy.
Purpose Retinal ischemia has been traditionally assessed by fluorescein angiography, visualizing perfused vessels. However, this method does not provide any information about nonperfused vessels, and although it is often assumed that vessels in ischemic areas regress, we know little about how nonperfused retinal vessels change over time. Here, we aim to learn more about the long-term fate of no...
متن کاملAn Unusual Presentation of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis
The granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), formerly known as Wegener’s granulomatosis, is a pauci-immune vasculitis involving small- and medium-sized blood vessels. Classically, the patients inflicted with this disease present with a triad of necrotizing granulomatous inflammation of the respiratory tract, cutaneous necrotizing vasculitis, and glomerulonephritis (GN). The antinuclear (ANA) and...
متن کاملThe Fine Structure of Some Blood Vessels of the Earthworm, Eisenia foetida
The fine structure of the main dorsal and ventral circulatory trunks and of the subneural vessels and capillaries of the ventral nerve cord of the earthworm, Eisenia foetida, has been studied with the electron microscope. All of these vessels are lined internally by a continuous extracellular basement membrane varying in thickness (0.03 to 1 micro) with the vessel involved. The dorsal, ventral,...
